Combat

The first lesson is knowing whom to fight. Use the command 'consider' to weigh your chances of killing a monster. Avoid fighting monsters that would probably kill you easily.

Knowing your enemy is good but knowing when to run away is more important. This is where the command 'flee' comes in. If a battle is not going well - the monster is hitting you more than you hit him - you should flee if you don't want to die. You can also configure your character to flee automatically with the 'wimpy' command. With this command, you set the minimum number of hit points you wish to save until you try to flee. There is no dishonour in running away for another better day!

Try to kill all monsters in MUD School (except the blob) because they hold equipment that you can use. After you kill each monster, get all of the equipment from their corpses with the command 'get all corpse'. You can then use the command 'wear all' to wear your newly won equipment. When you are done with the corpse, 'sacrifice corpse' to give it to your god.

'Get all corpse' and 'sacrifice corpse' can be done automatically through 'autoloot' and 'autosac'. To see your auto settings, type 'config'. You may type 'config autoloot' to toggle autolooting on or off, and so on.

These are what you can toggle on or off (the default is shown):

ansi on display colour
autoloot on automatically retrieve items from a corpse after killing
autogold on automatically retrieve gold from a corpse after killing
autosac on automatically sacrifice a corpse after killing
autoexit on display exits when you enter a room
autosplit on automatically split retrieved gold amongst your group
autoassist on assist your group in fighting
prompt on display your prompt (used with arguments to configure the prompt)
pack on display items in pack mode
compact off omit line breaks
brief off omit room descriptions
combat on display group members' fighting messages
follower on allow other players to follow you
summon off allow yourself to be summoned by other players
pueblo on leave it on if you want to use Pueblo (a MUD client)

Killing a monster will give you experience points. You need certain amount of experience points to advance to next level so keep killing. If you have enough experience points, you will have to find a trainer to train you to the next level.

Between kills, you may need to rest or sleep to regenerate hit points. You can 'rest' or 'sleep' to regenerate hit/mana points. 'Sleep' will refresh you faster but you will be less aware of your surroundings.
