Starting out
Welcome to HOTL
III, Keril
You have been equipped with the basic outfit.
<18hp 30m 110mv 44ap>
Entrance to Mud School
When you enter the game, you will see your prompt.
for example: <30hp 30m 75mv 43ap>
This tells you certain important information about your character.
HP stands for hitpoints. Hitpoints keep track of how close your
character is to dying. Once you hit 0 hp, your character dies. M
stands for mana. Mana is what you need to cast spells. MV stands
for your movement points. Movement is important as it constrains
how far you can walk, and how many times you can execute certain
skills. (But more on that later). Basically, what you do, at least
in the early stages, is to kill mobs for 'experience points' and
gold. Experience points are what you accumulate from killing mobs.
Once you gain enough of them, you can gain a level. The higher your
level, the more powerful you become.
Type help. You will see this:

'Help' gives you a list of commands that you can use. You can try
out the various commands and see what they do.
Moving around
Now type look. Look is a command that allows you to look at the
room you are in, and shows you the exits, the room description,
and any monsters or items visible to you. You start the game in
this room called the "Entrance to Mud School". Mud school is where
all new characters start out. Read the instructions in the room
description, and follow them to get a basic idea of how to play
the game.
Now go north and type look. Read the room descriptions and the
information posted on the signs (type 'look sign').
The directions you can go in any room are: north, south, east,
west, up or down. Of course, not all rooms have exits available
in all directions. To see the obvious exits in a room, type 'exits'.
Sometimes, doors are closed, locked, or secret. Then you have to
notice clues in the room description, or try walking in that direction
and see if you bump into a door.
